                                  "Taking A Chance - Again"

Here we go again
I hear those trumpets blow again
All aglow again
Taking a chance on us

Yes, we slipped again,
But we can give our all again
Sisters through thick-to-thin again
Taking a chance on us

We can prove again
That we can make a move again
In a grove again
Taking a chance on us

Vaguely, I remember
one deep breath at a time
one drink of water at a time
one minute outdoors at a time
a journey of a thousand pounds
begins with the first self-loving choice

Disclosure: Not sure I can do it but, oh, do I want to!

Back to Basics

It's been 3 years since we were all doing pretty awesome. We've had a major blow in that time and speaking for myself, I have let myself slip away once again. Crazy how I do the same thing over and over. Maybe I wasn't committed enough. But, here and now I am vowing to begin anew. At 150.5 pounds and a 35 1/2 inch waist (I think that might need another measure) I begin a new.
My immediate plan is to go back to the beginning and pick out those things that were working. This on top of my most recent blood work was not pretty. I started the morning with Metamucil and water. I also went to the pool.

Could it be true...
that we may be breathing life back into our Blog? Leslie's Comment to my Post today stirred in me a hope for it might be true. Just finishing my green drink of the day. One note on Green drinks, at least for me: not only do they taste great, but somehow readjust your palate into wanting nutrient-dense food, you know, the good stuff.
Thinking Back, Looking Back
I found my WW daily logs from 2012. My last entry was 10/13/2012. I've been on the slippery slope ever since. We started our blog in May 2012. Mom's 90th B'day was in August 2012. During those 3 months, I slimmed down to where I was really liking how my clothes were fitting me again. Kim got the red bikini award for losing the most weight. Leslie, can't remember the specifics, but you slimmed down too. (Camille's physiology was an enigma to her and to us.)

So my last WW entry was October 2012. In December, Wigley and Mathai told Colleen she needed new lungs NOW. In January, Colleen got her February date to go to Pittsburgh. I remember packing really healthy food -- even brought our NutriBullet. Veggie Soup. Nuts. Oranges. We may have stopped for soft pretzels en route. The communal kitchen in Family House had all sorts of cookies and temptations, so I went crazy eating all that. Col, of course, never over-indulged. (Or course, too, no one over-indulges like me.) I came back to Col's in late April and proceeded to eat all the ice cream in her freezer. By that time, Colleen was just eating anything high-calorie that she could tolerate. So there was a lot of high-calorie sweets around. I had to keep replacing the half-gallons of ice cream. I was pretty mortified at myself, I remember well. I stayed almost until the end of May - with that 10-day visit to Hopkins mid-way. I couldn't afford to eat out in Baltimore, so I would start my day with the free Continental Breakfast pastries (D+) at the hotel. And it went downhill from there. I don't think I had a single regular meal while I was there. By that time, all bets are off. I don't know if I was even still juicing at that point. I just remember that every time I went to Col's in 2013, I ate anything sweet I could get my hands on, and there was a lot. Remember Tina's Hershey Kisses? Oh, yeah. I had more than my share and had to replace those too. (It was harder to gobble down Col's ice cream supplies with Tina around because I was mortified at being caught out with how much I was eating.) So what am I talking about here?  Gaining, gaining, gaining, gaining, gaining.  No restraint.Lost.
My first green drink after all that time was only a few weeks ago. So hard to turn the ship around toward high-nutrition food and, hopefully, slimming down again.
Mos Def Here
Getting back to Greens and Water and No Sweets feels like getting back on a bicycle after twenty thousand years without riding. I'm carrying a notebook around with me so that when the craving strikes for cookies- pie-cake, I write it down. It's a way to pause before saying "F___ it" and turning into the grocery store parking lot. I'm amazed at what I've forgotten in the past year. I forgot, for instance, that I have the Weight Watchers Calculator on my easy access Bookmarks Bar (in spite of the fact that I can't piggyback onto Kim's WW membership like I used to). I printed out some new Weight Watchers logs which really worked for me last time -- along with my chart of points for the things I eat regularly. I'm making green drinks again -- wow that was a hard barrier to break through for some reason. No sweets for a least a few weeks. I think sugar was my first addiction. More to come from me, I trust. More to come from you, I hope.
